Dune landscape

Mangue Seco Beach

Mangue Seco became famous when Brazilian TV turned the novel Vita e miracoli di Tieta d’Agreste by Jorge Amado into a soap opera. A town born from a shipwreck
The town of Mague Seco is very old. It is said that he was born in 1549, when the Jesuits arrived at the place to save themselves from a shipwreck. It was baptized as Santa Cruz da Bela Vista and, due to its strategic location, bordering the river and the sea, it came to have an important participation in the region’s trade, based especially on coconuts and their derivatives. In the 1930s, the unstable nature of its soils at the junction of river and sea caused an entire avenue where warehouses and some residences were located to disappear. From then on, Mangue Seco lost commercial importance, gradually becoming a fishermen’s house and summer resort.
