Ponta Negra Beach

Ponta Negra is Natal’s most famous beach, featuring a beautiful stretch of sand and calm waters.

The beach extends for about 4 kilometers, and at its southern end stands Morro do Careca, a sand dune over one hundred meters high and Natal’s most iconic tourist landmark.

You can see it in the previous photo of the beach — Morro do Careca is a natural lookout offering stunning views of the sea and the city.

Its name means “Bald Hill,” and it’s undoubtedly the symbol that defines Natal, often featured on postcards and tourist materials.

In the past, Morro do Careca was a popular spot for fun and recreation. Bathers and tourists used to climb the hill and slide down using a device called a skibunda. Since the late 1990s, however, it has been closed to visitors to preserve the surrounding forest and protect the dune from erosion.

Maracajaú Beach

Maracajaú is a small town located 52 km north of Natal, famous for its crystal-clear waters and an impressive coral reef.

The water is warm and calm, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or diving. Visitors can take boat trips to explore the reef and observe marine life, including tropical fish, sea turtles, and rays.

Besides its underwater beauty, Maracajaú Beach is also known for its stunning white sand, making it an ideal spot to sunbathe, relax, and enjoy the coastal scenery.

This lagoon is located about a 30-minute drive from Natal.

At Jacumã Lagoon, you can swim, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and take boat rides.

It’s also a popular spot for sandboarding — sliding down the sand dunes on a board.

Additionally, the area around the lagoon has restaurants and bars offering typical regional food and refreshing drinks.
